Chilatherina Bleheri Rainbowfish

Bleher’s Rainbowfish is a striking and active species native to the Lake Holmes region of Papua, Indonesia. Mature males develop an impressive blend of silver, gold, orange, and reddish coloration, with the strongest color typically concentrated toward the rear half of the body. Females are more subdued but still display attractive silver and golden tones.

Like other rainbowfish, Bleheri are peaceful, social fish that look and behave best when maintained in a group. Their constant activity and schooling behavior make them an excellent centerpiece for larger community aquariums.

Bleheri appreciate clean, well-oxygenated water with plenty of open swimming space. Plants along the sides and back of the aquarium provide cover while leaving the center open for schooling.

Feeding

Feed a varied diet of quality flakes or pellets supplemented with frozen or live foods such as brine shrimp, daphnia, and bloodworms. A varied diet helps encourage strong growth and the vibrant coloration mature males are known for.

Tank Mates

Excellent companions include other similarly sized rainbowfish, peaceful barbs, larger tetras, Corydoras, peaceful plecos, and other active community fish. Avoid very small or extremely timid species that may be intimidated by their fast swimming and energetic feeding behavior.

Note: Juvenile Bleheri may initially appear relatively plain. Their characteristic colors intensify considerably as they mature, particularly in males.
