Type

Red Neon Rainbowfish are small, colorful blue-eye rainbowfish prized for their vivid red-orange fins, iridescent body coloration, and active display behavior. Males are especially striking when displaying to females or rival males, making this species an excellent choice for planted nano and community aquariums.

Pseudomugil paskai are social fish and should be kept in groups of 6 or more, with larger groups preferred. Keeping multiple males and females encourages natural schooling, displaying, and courtship behavior.

Care Information

  • Adult Size: Approximately 1.25–1.5 inches
  • Minimum Tank: 10 gallons, with 20 gallons preferred for larger groups
  • Temperature: 74–82°F
  • pH: Approximately 6.0–7.5
  • Temperament: Peaceful
  • Group Size: 6+ recommended
  • Diet: Omnivore/micropredator
  • Tank Level: Middle to upper levels

Feed a varied diet of appropriately sized foods such as crushed quality flakes, micro pellets, baby brine shrimp, daphnia, cyclops, and other small frozen or live foods. Their small mouths require foods that are easy for them to consume.

A planted aquarium with open swimming space works especially well. Floating plants, fine-leaved plants, and gentle water movement provide cover while encouraging natural behavior and displaying.

Red Neon Rainbows are best kept with other small, peaceful species such as small rasboras, tetras, Corydoras, shrimp, and other Pseudomugil species. Avoid large, aggressive, or highly competitive tankmates.

Please note: These fish are excellent jumpers, so a secure lid is strongly recommended.
