Who was Moe?
Moe, a middle child of nine, mother of four, grandmother of two (plus one more on the way as of September 2024), and mother-in-law to two; was a seamstress by trade, hailed originally from Southern California, and moved outside of Seattle in 1992. She was never in the hobby. but was a creative soul who painted, crafted, knitted, drew and did anything that involved creating. She loved gardening, indoor plants and toyed a little with hydroponics. We talked a little about getting a fish tank, but it was something where space, expense, and pets were always a concern.
She would have loved it though.
In 2015 Maureen became ill with stage 3 bladder cancer; she kicked that cancer's ass within the year and became a survivor 5 years later. She was so proud (as were we) of her achievements it was a huge surprise to all of us when she was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer in Jan of 2023.
She was a fighter and fought until the very end.
In her last moments she was in her home where she was most comfortable; no longer in pain and surrounded by her children and grandchildren. She was at peace when she went home to be with God.
Her death hit us hard. I am her eldest daughter and after having her living in my home with my family for so many years, it just felt empty. I asked my husband for a fish tank for Christmas to give me something to occupy my mind.
Who would have known I would have found my "thing" to be passionate about? I enjoy spending time with the tanks and the fish. Her bedroom has been converted to my fish room and the den houses a few tanks.
Sometimes I feel like she is talking to me while I am tending to the tanks. It's a nice feeling. I acknowledge that this is my grief therapy.
It's also something I love doing. I am always in the fish room tending to the tanks, it only made sense to make this a business.
I take pride in ensuring that the fish and invertebrates I provide to others in the hobby are well cared for and are of the best quality. I know I still have a lot to learn, and I love how welcoming everyone in the hobby has been.
At this time, I am focusing on mystery snails and breeding heartier fish such as guppies and cichlid convicts. I hope to eventually breed different fish such as neo shrimp, angelfish, killifish and rainbow fish.
